Our Mission: Empowering Wildlife Discovery Through Detailed Factfiles and Images
About the Site
Wildlife Wanderer is centred mainly around British wildlife, with a possibility of incorporating foreign wildlife at a later date. The pages and gallery are listed by the binomial name, sometimes known as a Latin name, for one specific reason, continuity. Every species has a unique binomial name, but many also have no common name or share a common name with another species (the Daddylonglegs for example can relate to a spider, harvestman or a crane fly).
Binomial names also help show related species, if two specimens share the same genus (the first part of the binomial name) then it is easy to see that they are morphologically very similar.
Many British species are subspecies of a group, for instance the Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus graellsii). This will be mentioned in the body of the factfiles, hoever the titles will remain at full species so as not to confuse.
About Me
I have been fascinated by wildife ever since I can remember, but growing up in the middle of the city made it hard for me to seek out many species. I was ultimately limited to insects, invertebrates, and if I was lucky, birds. And so, I began collecting little creatures in my spy pot, and studying them in detail, until I was able to afford my first 35mm film roll-on camera.
From there I upgraded several times over the years; from a manual Minolta with interchangeable lenses, to a Nikon D40X and to my current setup, a Nikon D3300 with a 40mm Macro lens.
This site is my second wildlife site, my first was back in 2009 and I had to learn computer coding to accomplish it. I spent days and nights on forums, learning bit by bit until PawsForWildlife.co.uk was ready to launch, but sadly, time commitments and financial issues saw me abandon the site after a few years.
This site is my reprieve, an honour to myself for the decades of research and crawling around through nettles, thistles and muddy terrain, to get that perfect shot.
